Cute Creepy Crawly Spider

My mother in law and I were talking a few weeks ago and she was telling me that her ward was going to be doing a Super Saturday. They have not done one in like 15 years (I think that's what she said) and so she was way excited and telling me about all the cute things they were going to have. If you don't know what that is, the ward has a bunch of different crafts that you can sign up for and then on a Saturday you all come together to make them. It is so fun to be together and make cute stuff!! My mother in law was so sweet and surprised me and signed me up to make this cute spider!

The lady that was in charge of the spider said she bought the wood in a kit. I am guessing you can find it at a craft store. Then she found cute paper for the body and legs.

How you make it:
Start with all your painting so it can dry while you are working on the paper. You will paint the head and outside of the body. I didn't paint the actual body since it is covered in paper. You will also paint the legs, nose mouth, eyes and eye balls. Right after I painted the eyeballs, I rolled them in black glitter so they would stand out.

Next, is the paper. Trace the legs onto the paper of your choice and cut them out. Do the same with the nose and eyes. Then we had some cute spider web paper for the body. This part was the hardest for me. You have to cut the paper along the straight lines of the web but then make it all cover the body. Then you have to cut the excess paper around the head and the outer body.

Then you mod podge all the paper onto the wood. The tricky part again was the body. I carefully slid all the paper off and put it back on in the order I had it on the spider other wise you could mess it up and have holes.

When I painted the legs, I only painted the sides and back because the paper was going to be on top, but as you can see in the picture above there was a little wood showing in some areas. After the mod podge dried I went back and painted where it needed it.

After the paint had dried I went through and antiqued everything. I just really like that look and thought it would be cute. I took a black stamp pad and a paper towel and rubbed ink around everything. I have no idea why, but it actually went purple. It looked so cute with the accents of purple already on the spider!!
You can really see that it went purple around the eyes here.

Then you will hot glue everything on the body of the spider. The nose, eyes, eyeballs and legs.

Then you will mod podge the "EeEK!!" at the top of the spider like so:
When the mod podge dries, take purple glitter glue and go around the edges of the letters. It gives it sparkle and helps it stand out!!

The very last thing is to drill holes in the top and add cute ribbon to hang it up!!

I absolutely love it!!! He is so cute!!

Candy Corn Bottle Vases

A few weeks ago I was at my in laws and saw that they had bought some fancy drinks, as in they were in glass bottles. I just like to call them that! I asked her if she could save the glasses for me when they were done drinking them. She was so sweet that did that for me! Now that I am doing more crafting I just knew there would be something I could do with them. I have seen many people make cute vases out of these bottle glasses and I thought it would be cute to do some for Halloween. Trying to figure out just what to do was hard for me. There are so many things you can do with the Halloween theme. I decided to make them look like Candy Corns. The best part is, this only cost me $2.00!! Of course, I got the bottles from my in laws, I had all the paints on hand, I used tree branches from my yard. I just got 2 sets of black roses from the Dollar Store!

Here's What You Need:

-3 glass bottles
-white, orange & yellow paint
-black flowers to put in them (optional)
-tree branches to go inside (optional)
-black spray paint for the tree branches if you choose to do that

How To Make Them:

First off, paint the whole bottle white for a base coat. I did 2 coats over the whole bottle and then 3 over the top 1/3 where it is just the white showing. This part takes the longest because you have to let each layer dry completely.

Next, paint the orange in the middle. I did two coats.

Lastly, paint the yellow on the bottom. I also did two coats on this.
Super Easy, right?!? The lines for each color don't have to be perfect like shown here. It just depends on the look you want. I thought I would like this, but I ended up going back and making it look more like a straight line going around.

Then came the fun part, putting fillers inside the vases!! I was at the Dollar Store the other day and saw some super cute black roses with spiders in them. I just had to get them to put in one of the vases!
When I was first coming up with the idea I envisioned having black tree branches in the vases. So in the other two that's what I did. My parents have a tree in their backyard that had a dead limb on it so I got there permission to cut some of the branches off to use. Then I spray painted them black.
After they all dried I cut them to how I wanted them in the vases.

Here are all 3 of them together...
I am so excited about how they turned out!!!
What do you think??

Family Definition Plaque

I have seen the idea of doing definitions a lot of places lately, especially on pillows. I really wanted to do a definition on family. I though it would be cute to do it on a wood board so I could put it on my nightstand.

What you will need:
-9"x11" wood board
-Sand Paper
-Paint of any color (I used Buttermilk Cream)
-Stain (I used Early American)
-Vinyl (I used Brown)
-Mod Podge
-Flet & Burlap for the flowers
-Hot Glue Gun

How you make it:

Paint the wood the color you have chosen. I only painted the top of it because I wanted to stain the rest. I did 2 coats on mine.

Then I sanded the edges a little bit so I could see wood around it on the front side. I like being able to see the stain color around the paint.

Next, I stained the whole thing. I put it over the paint on the front. Some spots I did heavier then others because I wanted an old fashioned look to it.

Then I got the definition about family that I wanted and put it in the font I wanted. In Microsoft Word I found a book type of font that I liked. I can't remember the name of it. Sorry! Then I cut that out in vinyl and put it on the board.

Next, I put a coat of mod podge over the vinyl because I didn't want any of the letters or dots to have a chance to fall off!

While that was drying I made some felt flowers to put in the corner of the plaque.

For the tutorials on how to make the Rosette and the Burlap Fan go here.

Here is the tutorial on how to make the ring flowers:

Cut a circle out of felt. I used a small cup to trace my circle because I wanted them smaller.

Then you are going to cut in a spiral motion to the center of the flower. It will look like this

Starting in the center of the flower you will start rolling it.
When you get to the end put hot glue on the felt to secure it.

When you are all done making the flowers you will hot glue them on to the board.

Here is the finished product:
I love how it turned out!
