Felt Flower Tutorials

These cute felt flowers have been used for so many cute things in the crafting world lately. I recently used them for a wreath. Here are the tutorials to make them:

Rosette Flower:
Tear a strip of fabric 2" wide and 36" long. You can cut it but tearing it gives it a more old fashioned look. Tie a knot at one end of the fabric.

Next, twist the fabric around the knot, putting hot glue every few turns. This keeps the flower in place!

When you get to the end, tuck the end fabric under the flower and hot glue it in place.

The End Result:

Flared Quarter Circle Flower:
Cut out 6 felt circles. I traced a cup to get my pattern.

Next, take one circle and fold it in half. Dab some hot glue in the center of the fold to hold it in place.

Fold it in half again. Put a little hot glue in the bottom center of that fold to hold it in place.

Do this same step with 4 more circles.

Hot glue it in place in the middle of the last circle.

Hot glue 3 more around the circle. It will look like this
Lastly, put a big dab of glue right in the middle and push the last folded circle in.

The Result:

A Bun in the Oven Flower:
(My hubby told me I had to name it that!)
Cut a long strip of felt. About 2"x36". Fold it in half long ways down the whole thing. Then cut small slits down it.

At one end start rolling it. Put dabs of hot glue every few turns to hold it in place.
Apply some hot glue to the end of the fabric to secure it. The bottom of the flower will look almost like a cinnamon roll!

The Result:
(Sorry, I took a picture of it but accidentally erased it so this is of it on the wreath)

Burlap Fan:
I wanted to accent the flowers with something so I made a little fan out of burlap.

First, cut a long strip. I did mine about 2"x13". Then at one end start folding the fabric over itself (it's almost accordion style, but just fan it out a little).

To secure it I took a needle and thread and stitched it at the bottom.

Tissue Paper Flower Tutorial

I bought a candle lantern holder to put into our room, the only thing is I didn't want to put a candle in it. I wanted to do something fun inside it. I have always loved these tissue paper flowers
I decided to make some on a smaller scale to put inside the lantern.

Heres what you need:
*4-6 sheets of tissue paper per flower (If you want bigger flowers you will want to use 8-11 sheets)
*tape measurer
*scissors
*metal wire

Step 1:
Cut out the tissue paper to the size you want. I did 2 different sizes. One I did 4"x13" and the other I did 5"x13" If you are doing big ones I would recommend around 17"x30"

Step 2:
Fold all the sheets together accordion style all the way down.

Step 3:
Fold the metal wire in half and slip it in the middle of the tissue paper. Twist the ends together so it is secure.

Step 4:
Rounded Version (which is only cut on one side, sorry!)

Pointed Version

Cut the ends of the tissue paper either rounded or pointed. I cut most of mine pointed. I just liked that look better.

Step 5:
Fan out the paper on each side of the wire.

Step 6:
Separate the tissue paper one layer at a time. This step takes the longest because you are forming the flower and there are a lot of layers to separate.

End Result:

A Super Cute Tissue Paper Flower!!

Here is the lantern that I put them in.
It turned out perfect! I love it!!

Paper Flower Tutorial

Here is how you make a paper flower...

First select the paper you want the flower to be. Then cut it. If you are choosing from paper that is 12" long, the biggest width you can do it 1.5". If you do it any wider (like I have tried to experiment with) it will not work. The paper is not long enough! Most of the time you want the paper 12" long if you are doing smaller then just adjust the width of the paper. The size I chose for this flower is 1.5"x12".

Then you want to fold it accordion style all the way. Fold the creases tightly, this will help a lot when forming the flower!!

Next you will glue the ends together. Let it sit for a minute so it will fully dry. It will look like this

After it dries you will gather the top of the paper together and push it down. If you folded the creases tightly it should go smoothly for you!

Then to finish you need 2 circles. I did mine 1.25". You will hot glue them to the flower on the front and back so the flower will stay in place. This glue holds the best, none of the others held it that I tried.

To top it off...

You can add some leaves and jewels to dress it up!!

Walah!! You now have a Super Cute paper flower!!
