Land of the Free

Last year, I came across a sign that someone had made. It read:
"Land of the free because of the brave."
The word that stuck out to me the most was BECAUSE. I fell in love with the saying. It really is so true and we are so blessed to have the men and women who serve in our Arm Forces who are so brave to fight for the freedoms we have. This saying is a great reminder of this.

I had to make me a sign with this same saying as well!

Here's what I did to make it:

I got a piece of wood that is 13"x 7"x1". I sanded the edges and stained it with the color Early American.

While that was drying I cut out some scrapbook paper to fit how I wanted it. I like to have the edges of the wood showing around it. I also cut out the saying on white vinyl on my cricut and stuck it to one of the papers. When I put it together on the cricut I wanted it in a way that "because" would stand out.

When the stain finished drying I mod podged the paper to the wood.

Awhile back I got some scrolly looking handles at a store that sells steel. I have been waiting for the right project to use one. I knew it would look so cute on this.
So while the mod podge was drying, I put a coat of lacquer on the handle to protect it and give it a shiny look.

When both of those dried, I got to work on getting it attached to the sign. I measured it out and drilled 2 holes all the way through the wood.
Then I grabbed some white ribbon and put it through the holes and attached the handle to it by tying a knot.

Here is what it looks like:

It is so cute and so PERFECT for the upcoming holiday!!
