Monogram Frame Decor

This is one of those projects that you have something visioned in your mind and as you are making it it totally changes!! Have any of you had those types of projects?? Hopefully I am not the only one!

My hubby and I went to Michael's a few weeks ago and I saw these frames for $1.00. I got a few of them to have on hand for a project.
They are just the basic wood square ones.

I pictured in my mind something like: staining the frame, putting burlap in the middle where the picture goes, and making a flower to put on the burlap. I was going to do 3 of these and hang them in my bedroom.

I decided to just start with one to see how I would like it then do the others....well I never made it to the other ones!!!

What I did was:

Stain the frame with Early American.

Then I took the cardboard that was in the middle, turn it over and covered it with burlap. I hot glued it on the back of the cardboard.

Next, I made a rosette flower with light cream fabric. I put it on there and HATED the way it looked!! AHH! So this is where I changed what I was doing! I still wanted to finish it and not just leave it because I knew I could do something cute with it.

I decided to make it a monogram frame instead!! I got on my cricut and cut the letter S out in vinyl. I used the outline of the S and stuck it on the burlap.

Then I got black craft paint and painted the S. I had to kind of dab it onto the burlap. It was easy to do!

After that dried for a few minutes I took the vinyl off  and stuck it into the frame. Lastly, I made another rosette flower so I had 2 and stuck some pearl buttons in one and a button in the other. Then I hot glued them to the corner of the frame.
To see how to make the rosette flowers go HERE.

I also stuck some black ribbon on top to hang it from. Here is what I looks like all put together:

I LOVE they way it turned out!!! I am glad it had a GREAT OUTCOME!

  1. I love the way that turned out too! I love burlap and a stencil (which I'm terrible at) makes it even better!

  2. This turned out super cute! There is a Michael's right down the street of our new apartment so I'll need to stop by and get some of those frames. I want to do a gallery wall in our room and something like this would be perfect! I'm pinning this!

  5. This looks great! When I clicked over from The Grant Life I thought it might be a cork frame. I love the stain you chose, and I will never turn down a chance to use burlap!
