Christmas Countdown Blocks

I do not have anything to help me countdown to Christmas
and with having kiddos I needed to make something this year for them to do!!
I have seen all sorts of cute things out there. I would eventually like to make
something that has something fun to do on it daily as we count down,
but I think that is going to have to wait until next year.
This year I just wanted something simple and cute!

I saw these cute countdown blocks on pinterest and had to make a set for me!

For This Project You Will Need:
-2 4x4 Blocks
-1 4x8 Block
-7 Different Scrapbook Papers
-Mod Podge
-Stain
-Sander or Sand Paper
-Vinyl Numbers & Letterings

How to Make Them:

My handy hubby cut my wood out for me. I first sanded around the edges making them round and smooth.

Then I cut all my paper down to size. I used 3 different papers on each block using 2 of each since there are 6 sides. I chose 1 different paper for the bottom block. I put paper on the sids of the bottom block, but that it optional. So I cut out 3 of that paper.

Next, I mod podged those to the wood blocks. I only glued them on, I did not put mod podge on top yet. That will come last!

I let that dry for a few minutes. Then I went to my electric sander and sanded around the edges of the paper to give it the old worn look.

Next, I CAREFULLY stained around the wood on the blocks trying my best to not get it too much on the paper. I did go around the paper a little bit, but not too much.

That had to try for a good few minutes. I waited about an hour, but I bet 30 minutes would be good.

When that dried I put all my vinyl lettering and numbers on.
I am so glad that someone else figured this part out. I just used what she did.
The numbers on the blocks need to be as follows:
Block 1:   0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Block 2:   0, 1, 2, 6, 7, 8
 {The 6 Doubles as a 9 on this block!}

Lastly, I put a coat of mod podge over everything to protect it all.

My kids are so excited to start counting down to Christmas!!

  4. That's so cute!! They remind me of an old kind of calendar which I saw when I was a kid... it had numbers on 2 cubes, days of the week on some other blocks - a calendar that could be used year after year!
