Easy Tulle Tutu Tutorial

Try saying that ten times fast!!!! HAHA!

I decided it would be really fun to make my little Kaitlyn a tutu for Christmas this year. She loves to dress up and know she would love it!! This is a really easy, simple way to make it.

To get started you will need:
**I did not use all the tulle that is in this picture!!! I didn't know how much I was going to use since this was my first one so I just got a picture of them all! And I didn't end up using the Light Pink. It was way to light when I cut it into strips and you couldn't see it in the tutu.**

-Elastic
-1 roll Dark Pink tulle (I only used half of it which was about 12 yards)
-3 rolls of White Glittery tulle (I used about 2 rolls and 1/4 of the 3rd one)

If you desire to make flowers like I am putting on mine:
-Ribbon
-White Felt
-Dark Pink Felt
-Turquoise Felt
-Light & Dark Pink Tulle

How To Make It:

First you will measure the child's waist size. When you measure the elastic you want to make it an inch smaller. That's because of the elastic stretching. I cut mine at 21".  It was a little big, but that's ok...she will have room to grow so she can play with it for awhile! Then you are going to sew the ends together.

Next, you are going to cut the tulle into strips. I measured Kaitlyn for the length I wanted it for her. I wanted 11" so I cut them at 22" because you will be folding them in half.
Then comes the fun part. Putting them all on the elastic. This took me about 2 hours to get them all on. To do this, you are going to get a strip of tulle and fold it in half to get the middle point. Then you will lay it over the top of the elastic...
Then you will grab the two ends of the tulle and tuck them under the elastic and pull them up through the hole that you have made with the middle point of the tulle.

Then just pull it tight!!

The pattern I did are 2 white sparkly ones and then 1 dark pink one.
When you get them all on you can be done at that point if you choose too! I decided to do a zig zag stitch on the sewing machine so they would all stay in place. I have heard from others that after awhile of the kids playing with it the tulle would come loose. I didn't want my hard work to go to waste!!! I did that stitch all the way around the top on the elastic.

I decided it would be fun to add some ribbons and flowers to give it a girly touch!! If you desire to you can do something like what I did...
The tutorials to make these flowers can be found HERE. I glued all the flowers and ribbons onto a white piece of felt and then hot glued 2 pins on the back of it. Then I pinned it in the top where the elastic is.

Here it the TUTU all done...

So CUTE!!! I can't wait until Christmas to give it to her!! I definitely think I will be making many more in different colors for her in the next few years!
