I’m so excited to be guest hosting here at Two Yellow Birds Decor! I’m so grateful to Jill for having me here! I have an awesome inexpensive DIY Halloween countdown I’m excited to show you today, but let me introduce myself first.

My name is Lisa and my blog is The Spotted Blonde. I LOVE making things in Photoshop so I started my blog as a way to share free printables with everyone, but I also post some of my favorite recipes, craft ideas, and I will be starting Fitness Friday where people can check in weekly and post their goals, challenges, successes, associated with becoming/staying healthy and fit on October 4th! Basically my blog is everything that I love and am passionate about and I love to share that with everyone! I hope you stop by and check it out! Now you know a little about me – let’s get right to it!

My son has been talking about Halloween for the past couple weeks now. He is always asking me when it’s going to be Halloween, so I thought what better way to help him understand that he has to wait 31 more days than to make a fun countdown calendar for him to see!

The items you will need for this project are: Empty Cereal Box - Large! I used the Honey Nut double box from Costco Black Paint (or color of your choice) Paint Brush Numbers – CLICK HERE FOR PRINTABLE Things to do – CLICK HERE FOR PRINTABLE Countdown to Halloween Banner – CLICK HERE FOR PRINTABLE Beads Exacto knife Hot Glue Glue stick or spray glue Ribbon Ruler Pen 1) Paint your cereal box

2) While that is drying, download, print & cut the printables. (IMPORTANT - do NOT cut along the gray dotted line of the activities page - you will be folding along that line.) 3) Space out the numbers on your box, trace them so you have markings.

4) Use the Exacto knife and cut along the SIDES AND TOP of the markings for each number - do NOT cut the bottom. 5) Once all the squares are cut, glue on the numbers with either a glue stick or spray glue.

6) Once that is dried, hot glue the beads on the top of each number so you have something to hold onto to so you can pull it down.

7) Once that is dry, pull each number down and glue the fold of the activities on the inside of the flap. Do this for all the days. You can do them in whatever order you want.

8) Punch two holes in the top and string the ribbon through and tie a bow at the desired height.

9) Glue the Countdown to Halloween Banner at the top.

That’s it! You are done! This project was free for me since I used things I already had on hand and my son is SO excited he gets to start using it today!

Hello everyone, I am really excited to be guest posting for Jill today. I have been following Jill’s blog since I started blogging. I enjoy linking up to her Thursday’s Temptation link party and also enjoy all of the great information she provides.

Jill and I are also co-hosting together along with 14 other bloggers the Summer Fun Party!

My name is Shirley and I blog at Motivated Mommy of Two. I am a mom to the two most wonderful kids and a wife to the most loving and understanding husband.

I love to write about what motivates me to keep going with my weight loss journey, the awesome times I spend with my family. And of course all of the different projects I like to work around the house.

Today I wanted to share with you a wonderful idea I found on Pinterest. It is called Word Checkers Game

I stopped at the Dollar Tree store and found this game of checkers

I bought double sided tape and some foam sheets so that I can use to make the squares and write the words on them.

I cut out each square, using the double sided tape I placed them on every single black square. Following the directions, I wrote high frequency words on each square. And this is what I ended up with

Now here is the way I changed the game, I did not play the actual game of checkers with my kids instead I did the following

Gave my daughter the red coins
Gave my son the black coins
Each one had to take turns picking a word, for example my daughter picked the word ‘Eat’

In order to put her coin on top of the word she had to say the sound of each letter and try to say what the word was. I must say just by saying the sound of the letters my kids were able to say a lot of the words. The ones that they did not know I helped them.
Next it was my son’s turn, he picked the word by.

The goals for me was not to see who can win the game of checkers but getting them to learn the words.

Once each one was done with their coins, the game was over. I must tell you my kids had a good time playing and I enjoyed my self too because they were not also playing but learning too.

I will definitely be using this idea when my daughter is a little bit older!

Hi everyone! I'm Meredith from Wait Til Your Father Gets Home, a crafty and diy blog that I recently started since becoming a stay at home mom to my little guy, Jackson.

{That's us on Easter....with the only egg he cared to find at his first egg hunt!}

I'm a former teacher, addicted to Pinterest , and love to read crafty & diy blogs as often as possible! Jill has been sweet enough to invite me to swap blogs with her today, and I couldn't be more thrilled!

For those of you that follow my blog, I'm sure you're aware that my little guy's 1st birthday is coming up! He was originally due on July 16th but decided to surprise us early on July 3rd, just shy of Independence Day! In addition to some pretty cute red, white, and blue decor, I've decided to make birthday cupcakes for him (and his party guests) this year! Don't get me wrong...I love a good store bought cake (especially if it's from Publix), but I wanted to do it myself and in the process save a ton of money. (I love ya Publix, but you can be expensive)!

So I begged a good friend to share her cupcake recipe (thinking it was going to be pretty in depth) and to my surprise they are not only the most delicious cupcakes EVER but they are SO super simple to make! I wanted to test out the recipe before the party, to make sure I did everything right and they tasted just as good as hers, so Mother's Day weekend I made myself and some other moms in my life some cupcakes!

To make {Homemade Cake Mix Cupcakes} you'll need:

1 box of Pillsbury Moist Supreme Classic Yellow Cake or Chocolate Cake Mix

Substitute 1 cup of buttermilk in place of the water

1/3 cup of vegetable oil

4 eggs (instead of 3)

cute cupcake liners

To get started, dump all ingredients into a bowl and mix! I used my Kitchen Aid (love that thing) and mixed on low for about 3 minutes. Fill your cupcake liners about 2/3 of the way full, and bake at 350 for only 15 minutes! Yes, I swear...15 minutes!

Soon you'll have beautiful cupcakes that look like this...

...that have an odd obsession with Vanilla Ice, and would like some homemade frosting (after they cool it down for a bit first).

To make the frosting you'll need:

5 1/2 cups powdered sugar (I used the whole box)

2 teaspoons vanilla

2/3 cup of butter, softened

4 tablespoons of milk (you don't have to use whole)

In a large bowl, beat the powdered sugar and butter on low. Once they seem combined, beat in the vanilla and milk until it's smooth and spreadable. Add more milk if the frosting seems too thick. If you wanted to have a colored frosting, this is when you'd add food coloring. To frost the cupcakes...

Place a sealable, Ziploc baggie in a cup, spoon frosting into the bag, seal the bag, and cut a small corner out on the bottom. Then you can use it like a pastry bag (without paying all that money for bags and fancy tips) to frost the cupcakes.

Doesn't that look a lot nicer than just spreading the frosting on with a knife?!

The cupcakes were DE-LISH and I know that my little guy will love digging in on his birthday!

Blogger Friends...Meet Michala!!

I am so excited to be doing my very first guest post! Thank you so much Jill, my "fairy blog-mother", for having me! I am brand new to the blogging world (from the eyes of an author- I have been admiring other blogs for quite some time now). Jill has patiently answered my questions and has helped me navigate through some of my first big milestones of setting up my own blog. And if that wasn't enough, she is now letting me guest post! She is pretty much... amazing!!!

My name is Michala, and you can check out my brand new blog over at thehallyhousehold.blogspot.com where I love showing craft tutorials, couponing tips and techniques, ideas for a frugal lifestyle and just my funny personal stories of being a wife, mama and teacher.

I teach kindergarten part-time and absolutely LOVE it! I had always taught fifth grade, but I just had my baby girl last May, so I feel lucky that I get to stay home most days with her now. Even though I love my job, I love being a mama so much more.

Enough about me...

I thought I would share a super easy, frugal way to show your sweetheart how much you love them on Valentine's Day without spending money! Give them... a heart attack! I did this for my hubby last year and he got a kick out of it.

To get started, all you need is:

Paper (I like to use colored or patterned)
Scissors
Pen
Embellishments (Optional- I used flowers and brads for mine)

First, simply cut out your hearts and on each one write a personal note. I started every note with, "I love you because..." and then I gave a specific reason or thing that my hubs does that I love and/or appreciate about him.

I know this sounds silly, it may be the teacher in me, but I don't like to give generic feedback. Telling someone "I love you because you are funny" is nice, but telling them why or how they are funny will really make their day. It tells them that you really notice and love them for exactly who they are. If I tell a student, "I really appreciate how you come in quietly and get started on your morning work without talking!" They will do that for me every day. Specific, positive feedback can mean the world to someone.

Now you can add any embellishments, if you choose. I decided to make mine even "manlier" by adding flowers to my hearts :)

My husband makes me laugh so hard my belly hurts! He will ask me, "Did I give you a belly laugh?"

Now you can hang them up... anywhere your hubby will see them! One year I covered the cab of his truck in them. Another year I hid each heart in a different place, so as Valentine's Day went on, he would slowly find them.

This picture shows them all over his closet door. What better way to start your day than being reminded of all the things you do that your spouse loves?

Hello Lovelies! I am so excited to be here at Two Yellow Birds Decor! Thanks for having me Jill. I am excited to share a fun tutorial with you today. Before we get crafting though, I thought I would introduce myself first.

I am Danielle and my home is over at Blissful and Domestic. I love to blog about sewing, crafts, recipes,home-school, etc. Basically anything that allows me to use my creative gene. I love thrift stores and re-purposing, which is mainly what you will see from me. I love taking someone's cast offs and make them into something fantastic. So in a nutshell I am a crafting Mom, who loves to blog and share with all my blogging friends.

Now that you know a little bit about me...how about we get crafting?

After spending last month focusing on Halloween, I thought it was time to start sewing for myself. So lets get our sewing machines out and start sewing. Crafty Chickas need cute stuff too right? Can't use all the craftiness on our homes and children, although my little red heads do look so dang cute when they model what I make, but today we are focusing on us.

I started out with a simple white shirt I found at Target, in the clearance section. This is THE best place to go to find great shirts to repurpose. I also always check out thrift stores. I snagged this shirt for a little under $3, so you can say I was a little excited.
